Sergio first encountered the handpan in August 2007. He spent years playing on the streets of Palma de Mallorca before the pull of building became too strong to ignore. In 2017, after years of study and experimentation, he began making his own instruments. Today, each Gio's handpan is a direct expression of that journey — built entirely by one pair of hands, shaped by a lifetime of listening.
The connection to Yatao runs deep. Sergio and Malte Marten met in 2015 on the streets of Palma de Mallorca, playing the local markets together. That friendship grew into a creative partnership, and for several years now Gio's instruments have been offered through Yatao Shop. The E Kurd 17 — featured in their widely viewed duo video — became a defining instrument for both of them. When you buy a Gio's handpan from Yatao Shop, you are buying something made by one person who has dedicated his life to this craft. There is no factory, no production line. Just Sergio, his tools, and an extraordinary ear.
