- Profoundly Deep E2 Register: Rooted in an exceptionally low E2 ding that delivers a bass presence felt as much as heard, giving the instrument gravity and space.
- Iconic Pygmy Scale: A pentatonic structure creates harmonic unity - every note outlines a single consistent chord, so every combination resonates naturally.
- Wide 17-Note Range: Deep bottom notes anchor a powerful low end while the upper register runs bright and clear to E5, opening up complex chord voicings and layered compositions.
- Meditative Character: Notes bloom slowly and sustain with weight, giving even gentle playing a profound, meditative quality.
- Master Line Stainless Steel Craftsmanship: Clean, precise tone and long-term tuning stability, with every instrument personally played and checked before it ships.
The YataoPan E2 Pygmy 17 is a handpan built for depth - in every sense of the word. Rooted in an exceptionally low E2 ding, this Master Line instrument takes one of the oldest and most iconic scales in the handpan world and grounds it in a register that few instruments ever reach. The result is a sound that is haunting, expansive, and profoundly resonant - earthy enough to feel in your chest, open enough to lose yourself in. This is a handpan for players who want to go all the way down, and all the way in.
For Advanced Players and Serious Musicians
The Pygmy scale is built on a pentatonic structure that creates a rare kind of harmonic unity: because every note outlines a single consistent chord, every combination resonates naturally. There are no wrong notes, only different moods. It is a scale of longing, contemplation, and otherworldly calm - and in the low E2 tuning, that character deepens dramatically. The ding sits in a profoundly low register, the tone fields carry real weight, and the whole instrument takes on a grounded, meditative gravitas that a standard-register Pygmy simply cannot match.
With 17 notes across top and bottom, the E2 Pygmy 17 offers an extraordinary tonal range. The deep bottom notes - including the resonant B2 and D3 - anchor the instrument with a powerful low end, while the upper register runs bright and clear all the way to E5. This wide span opens up complex chord voicings, layered compositions, and fluid movement between deep, brooding passages and shimmering melodic lines.
Sound and Build
The YataoPan E2 Pygmy 17 is crafted from stainless steel, chosen for its clean, precise tone and long-term tuning stability. Stainless steel delivers a clear fundamental with well-defined overtones and reliable sustain - a material particularly well-suited to a deep, wide-ranging instrument like this one, allowing the low bass notes to bloom fully while keeping the upper register articulate and singing.
The defining feature of this handpan is its extraordinary low end. The E2 ding sits deeper than almost any standard handpan, delivering a bass presence that is felt as much as heard - a resonant foundation that gives the entire instrument a sense of gravity and space. Notes bloom slowly and sustain with weight, giving even gentle playing a profound, meditative quality. Above that foundation, the upper notes catch the light with clarity and shimmer, creating a tonal landscape of remarkable depth and breadth. Because all notes outline a single consistent chord, every combination creates powerful harmonic unity.
Every YataoPan is personally played and checked before it leaves us. Instruments that don't pass are reworked on-site - including retuning, resealing, and quality corrections. If it doesn't sound right, it doesn't ship.
