MAG Instruments was born from a chance encounter between four friends in Győr, Hungary. Ricsi and Peti were engineering-minded students already experimenting with metal shaping in their school's technical workshop. Patrik and Áron were musicians — both captivated by the handpan, and both frustrated by the near-impossibility of getting one serviced or repaired close to home. When the two pairs met, a shared idea took shape: build instruments that musicians could truly rely on.
After nearly three years of research, experimentation, and a great number of failed prototypes, the first MAG handpans were completed in 2019. Since then, MAG has grown from a small Hungarian workshop into one of the most respected names in the global handpan community — their instruments played by musicians across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
The name MAG carries a double meaning: it is the root of Magyar (Hungarian), and the Hungarian word for seed — a symbol of growth, potential, and evolution. That philosophy runs through everything they build.
Next to handpans they are also the creators of the MAG tongue drums, which we are also proud to be able to offer in our shop.
