• Designed and Shaped by Ayasa Instruments: Crafted from Ember Steel for a warm, rich tone with longer sustain - a perfect match for the open, floating character of the Aegean scale.
• Expanded Musical Range: 11 notes on the top side and 7 on the bottom combine the full Aegean melodic range with a deep bass foundation, allowing for complex compositions and rich expression.
• Spacious and Mysterious Sound: The Aegean scale blends Eastern and Western musical traditions - major in mood, yet more open and subtle than a standard major scale.
• Low-Maintenance Material: Ember Steel is highly rust-resistant and requires less maintenance; its surface may develop a vintage patina over time without affecting sound or tuning.

The YataoPan D Aegean 18 Ember brings together two of our favourites: the luminous, spacious Aegean scale and the warm, resonant character of Ember Steel. With 18 notes across the top and bottom side, it is an instrument for players who want room to grow - from meditative soundscapes to lively, rhythmic jams.

Designed and Shaped by Ayasa Instruments

The D Aegean 18 Ember is designed and shaped by Ayasa Instruments - one of the most respected handpan makers in the world. Ayasa's shells are produced using a standardised deep-draw method refined over more than a decade, ensuring a consistent shell thickness across the entire instrument. This precision is the foundation of the instrument's sound: clear, balanced, and resonant across every note field. It is this craftsmanship, combined with the YataoPan philosophy of transparency and fair pricing, that makes this instrument something special.

Ideal for Beginners and Experienced Players

The Aegean scale is built on an extended D Lydian structure. Every combination of notes sounds naturally coherent, so even simple phrases carry a sense of space and intention - which makes the scale welcoming for newcomers. At the same time, the expanded 18-note layout offers far more melodic variation and creative freedom than smaller Aegean configurations, so experienced players will not run out of ideas. Its spacious sound works for solo playing as well as in ensemble settings.

Sound and Build

The YataoPan D Aegean 18 Ember is crafted from Ember Steel. Ember Steel handpans are known for their warm, rich tone and longer sustain, making them especially well-suited for melodic and meditative playing. They are also highly rust-resistant and require less maintenance compared to stainless steel handpans.

The natural surface colouring of Ember Steel may shift and deepen over time, gaining a vintage character that is entirely its own. This change in appearance does not affect the sound or tuning of the instrument in any way.

On the top side, the D3 ding is surrounded by the full Aegean melodic range up to F#5. Seven bottom notes - from a deep B2 up to E5 - add bass depth and additional melodic tones, giving the instrument a full, room-filling presence.

The YataoPan Promise

When Malte Marten co-founded the Yataoshop in 2020, the mission was clear: make handpans accessible to everyone, without compromising on honesty.

The YataoPan D Aegean 18 Ember is part of the YataoPan Master Line - built for players who are ready for the finest instrument we make. Master-level craftsperson build, selected multi-note configurations, limited availability - sold individually.

At Yataoshop, price always follows quality. The Master Line costs more because it delivers more - in craftsmanship, in tonal depth, in sustain, and in the feeling under your hands. Not made for everyone. But genuinely the finest handpan line we make.

Every YataoPan also comes with a worldwide 2-year retuning warranty. If your instrument falls out of tune through normal playing, we'll have it serviced - wherever you are.

Why Choose the YataoPan D Aegean 18 Ember?

The YataoPan D Aegean 18 Ember combines the luminous, spacious sound of the Aegean scale with the warmth and longer sustain of Ember Steel. Its expanded 18-note layout offers the melodic freedom of a fully equipped instrument, while the coherent D Lydian structure keeps it intuitive to play. Designed and shaped by Ayasa Instruments and built to Master Line standards, it is an instrument to grow with for many years.

• Store your Handpan in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area and not inside your bag!
